Buying a performance PC

When you want to buy a performance PC for personal use, you will need to consider a number of factors and variables.  With the number of computers being sold on the market today, a novice or an inexperienced performance PC user will find buying a PC to be an overwhelming and confusing experience.

Power

The firstt thing you should look for when buying a high perfomrance PC is power. A computer that is either equipped with a quad-core or dual core CPU will have in general, a sufficient processing speed to power most personal computing activities such as utilizing productivity applications, playing entry level PC games, managing MP3s and viewing and editing photos.


Memory

Another thing that you should look into when getting a performance PC is memory. A PC with a memory ranging from 4 GB to 8 GB of RAM will generally be enough to support basic to intermediate computing functions and tasks.

Graphics

Graphics is another variable that you should also take into account when choosing a performance PC.  Look for a PC that has an integrated graphics chip from Nvidia, ATI or Intel.  Another option would be to get a computer that comes with either an Nvidia or ATI graphics card with a video memory ranging from 256 MB to 1 GB.

Other considerations

Choose a PC that has a DVD burner and a 500MB to 1TB hard drive.  If you are planning to buy a generic performance PC, make sure that it comes with at least a Windows 7 premium OS.  On the other hand, if you are planning on purchasing an iMac, choose one that has a Mac OS X Snow Leopard.

Upgrading your PC

RAM

Increasing a PC’s RAM size is the best way to improve computing performance. The bigger your RAM, the faster your performance PC will be, as it will take less time for your computer to access the hard drive when processing commands and tasks.

Network card

Another way to improve your performance PC’s system is to get a network card upgrade.  If you are utilizing a 10Mbps network card or a modem, you will greatly benefit from an upgrade to a wireless modem as the speed at which documents are shared and transferred would vastly improve.

Graphics card

Another way to enhance the performance of your computer is to get a graphics card upgrade.  When doing so, make sure that your motherboard is compatible with or can support the graphics card that you will be installing.

Troubleshooting PCs

If your performance PC is using a Windows OS and is showing an error message, the first thing that you should do is to write down the exact number and wording of the message. For software errors such as programs not installing properly or freezes when being used, you first have to check if a particular software program is compatible with the operating system of your performance PC.
